Hot on the heels of the Crysis 2 leak comes word that the PlayStation 3 exclusive has also turned up on torrent sites. We found out on Friday that 'a late development build' of was, including the master key files needed to get around the game's DRM. It was a very high-profile example of the most intractable problem facing PC gaming today: piracy. But don't go thinking that other platforms are immune from such difficulties, as a pre-release version of the upcoming PS3 shooter Killzone 3 is now making the round on various torrent sites.According to reports, two version of the European edition of the game have slipped out online, one with 3D support and one without. The 3D-capable game is a massive 41.4 GB in size while the standard edition clocks in at 22.3 GB. Both versions required a hacked PS3 to run. It's tempting to say that this disproves the long-held adage that the PC is the epicenter of videogame piracy but as pointed out, this is the first time a major PlayStation 3 game has leaked online prior to release. Given the nature of the PlayStation Network, it's also much easier for Sony to drop the hammer on PS3 pirates than their PC counterparts, giving PS3 owners a much better reason to think twice before they do something stupid. Which, by the way, is something to bear in mind if you're thinking about downloading this thing.Killzone 3 comes out for real on February 22.

Well this sucks. But as Jim said on Desturctoid (and no offense): 'I guess we're going to see this more and more with the PS3, following the hacking that some dipshits claim was 'just for homebrew.' Look forward to more annoying Firmware updates.

I can't wait for those to roll on down.Of course, you can argue this 'won't damage its sale' because it is Killzone, but that's the point. Big-name sequels are about the only things that publishers want to put out now, because they can survive crap like this. Welcome to the industry that we all helped create.'

. Its a very sad day. You do have to wonder about the employee that would risk their job by leaking these games. What exactly would they hope to gain from it?Is it not more likely that these 'leaks' are really just orchestrated marketing stunts? If it were my game company, and I knew how much Sony cracks down on piracy on their network already, I would absolutely consider pulling a stunt like this. There's not much to lose, and you get a whole bunch of free advertising out of it.Or am I just over-thinking things?

Well this sucks. But as Jim said on Desturctoid (and no offense): 'I guess we're going to see this more and more with the PS3, following the hacking that some dipshits claim was 'just for homebrew.' Yea, and the sad part is that a lot of pirates still believe that they are morally in the right somehow, or that its ok for them not to care because the company will 'still make money'.People shouldn't mix this phenomen with piracy. This problem is strictly on the developers side, because they allow their builts to get leaked. If you can't discipline your own staff, how can you expect that kind of discipline from anyone else in the world? And this is no better. 40 GBS?!?What the everlovingcrap? How on earth do you make a game that's 40 GB in size? Fallout 3 game out in 2009 and that was 6.7 GB and that game was fucking massive. On sorry this is a piracy thread. Err down with piracyFallout 3 used the same 10 textures over and over and over and over.

Ah you get my point. The devs only need one copy of each texture, they just copied and pasted. 3D on the other hand is a whole different ballgame that I admittedly don't know much about. But I'm not surprised that its that large.OT: Still not surprised. However, as one poster pointed out above me, the devs and pubs need to work harder to prevent leaks. Call of duty ghosts cheats. Most of the time the only way the game gets out like that is if someone inside leaks it.

Wonder zoo animal rescue game online pc. I highly doubt these pirates are breaking into the devs systems and stealing the code. Now, that doesn't make it right for the pirates to do it, but there has to be some liability if it is in fact someone within that leaked it in the first place.

Bloody hell.why is it that there is always a small group of people that always have to ruin things for everybody else? Cos it is really starting to try my patienceWell this sucks. But as Jim said on Desturctoid (and no offense): 'I guess we're going to see this more and more with the PS3, following the hacking that some dipshits claim was 'just for homebrew.' Yea, and the sad part is that a lot of pirates still believe that they are morally in the right somehow, or that its ok for them not to care because the company will 'still make money'.the real shame is that is that the only way to make them care would be a blunt object judiciously applied to the side of their cranium, which unfortunately would result in the person who hit them going to jail. 40 GBS?!?What the everlovingcrap? How on earth do you make a game that's 40 GB in size?

Fallout 3 game out in 2009 and that was 6.7 GB and that game was fucking massive. On sorry this is a piracy thread. Err down with piracyThe file size difference is because there are different files loaded for left and right eye. They're doing it that way to cut down on the processor requirements of the PS3 and it's not like Blu-rays don't have the capacity to support that approach.More on topic, I remember when one of the key points of using blu-rays as the standard was that the file sizes would be so large that they would discourage piracy, and with laws being rewritten in the US and Canada to allow limiting bandwidth that may become a valid point again.Bottom line though, good games get bought. No amount of piracy has ever ended a good game or solid studio, but piracy has crushed some smaller studios that released poor games. The only way piracy will ever end if there come some legitimate incentives to not pirate, and for some reason the industry doesn't realize that dlc exclusive won't cut it. If anything exclusive dlcs encourage piracy, as that becomes the only way to get the bonus content.sighPirates gonna pirate. How are all these games getting leaked.CONSPIRACY!1) 4Chan2) Jack Thompson meets Sam Fisher ninja.3) Kotick unleashes plan to destroy competitors.4) Killzone developers are attention whores and got jealous.5) Some idiot developer wanted to impress his step-son so he decided to sneak a copy of the game he wasworking on out so as to impress him and bring them closer. All of these are strong possibilities. Except number five.

Number five is totally weak cause, like, when you make a pinky-swear not to upload something on the internet, you totally cannot break that oath. Congratulations dipshit hackers and torrenters who cracked the PS3, you have now given Sony plenty of right to sue your asses off and come after you because now you are officially stealing from them and making other companies lose money and potentially jobs. This will likely make people think twice before making games for the PS3 anymore.Seriously, way to be greedy little dumbasses.

I hope they sue you for all you're worth. Seeing shit like this on a daily basis it's no wonder people look down at the gaming community. Hell, I hate it myself right now. Hope Xbox gets hacked as well so developers stop their bullshit excuse of piracy for not developing PC games. Noire a few days ago made me just go 'fuck you Rockstar' for another awesome title that's not coming to PC.

Killzone

Like not being able to play RDR wasn't bad enough.' Their bullshit excuse of piracy for not developing PC games?' Bloody hell.why is it that there is always a small group of people that always have to ruin things for everybody else? Cos it is really starting to try my patienceThe problems isn't the pirates, it's the knee jerk reaction from companies and the kindergarten politics involved. It's not the pirates fault for taking advantage of something that is there, like it's not the cows fault for shitting in the water upstream from where you drink. The problem is that now everyone has to pay for the actions of the few because the company says that all of us honest gamers must pay. Sony can keep on it's toes by doing more updates. Always online DRM is of course, a huge mistake. Also, for fun, this game was available online before the Crysis 2 Beta.

Good reporting skills. Is someone going to be idiotic and say they should 'stop making games for the PS3 just to show the pirates', like what happens whenever there is a story like this on a PC game (CRYSIS 2!).I wonder what defines when one leak is worth reporting and when it's not. It's kinda common for console games to get leaked before the release. Also, Marvel vs Capcom 3 was leaked some time ago already. It was, a buddy of mine has it, I played it this weekend. Amazingly enough, I still have my Collectors Edition completely payed off and am still looking forward to playing it. Crazy, I know!I don't think that it's 'not worth reporting', as much as I think it's the fact that it was missed. Also, Capcom isn't making a huge deal out of it.

Sony of course is, and so is Crytek. Additionally, the people that didn't know that these leaked games are out there, now know what to look for when they don't want to buy a game.I have seen 360 games online for years now, almost since the systems inception. Yet, those games still jump off the shelves when they are good, and not when they are shit. That also goes for the Wii.This is not a new phenomenon. When I was in the 8th grade, I cheated and copied discs for Microsoft Windows version 3.11. I am so evil. That was for my old 486 DX-2.

Just as an illustration as to how long this has been going on. And yet, despite the easy ability to steal way back in the day, Microsoft is still in it's present state, super rich and powerful.I think we will all survive piracy, just as the companies will.

The world isn't going to implode, and companies will still reap untold profits from all of us honest gamers.
